Review from the Gov
On a Tuesday night in Adelaide most people would be at home but not on the night of PUP playing.
Pup have come to Australia for Splendor in the Grass and have decided to stop off in a few other cities along the way. Pup have bought Melbourne band Loser around the country with them. Loser played huge fan favorite's including Skywalker, Loser, out of luck and on the edge.
PUP has a huge fan base in Adelaide and anyone and everyone from Adelaide’s biggest bands were there, From Nocturnal animals, It’s Not a phase, Wolf and Chain and Towns Pup has been a huge influence to all these bands over the years.
Claire from It’s not a phase said “The show was honestly pretty awesome! Loser was a great opening act and for me the drummer stole the show she has just joined the band, which was outstanding because she was so comfortable and having fun on stage, while being the most competent drummer I've seen in a long time.
As for Pup, they have a reputation of being one of the most energetic bands that still brings pure punk energy, with lots of audience love thrown in there. Even though this is probably one of the smallest shows they have down in a while venue-wise, it didn’t stop them putting on a performance worth of a crowd 10 times the size. They also don’t take themselves too seriously which I reckon works well for Australian audiences, we don’t take well to self-important people, so all round just a massive ball of fun and love.”
Pup had one of the most relaxing vibes you can have from a punk band having casual banter with the crowd, with The Gov packed out there were a few patrons who ignored the rules and crowd surfed (are we mad about that, hell no) Adelaide is just happy to not be sitting down at gigs again so to see crowd surfing again made so many others happy. PUP has been releasing music over the last few years but again due to covid have been unable to reach our shores until now. Lead singer Stefan said “It’s good to get back here to Australia where we have so many supporting our music over the pandemic.”
Listen to PUP’s new album on all streaming services.
